The women we see each day bring their own unique beliefs about God. Like all of us, they are in different stages of their faith journey. When the cares of the world – such as an unplanned pregnancy – become overwhelming, we are all capable of forgetting the power and majesty of our loving God.
Our volunteer counselors are trained to care for clients’ immediate needs while also pointing them toward their deepest need—a Savior. Faith’s story is a powerful reminder that when our will is weak, God’s love and care is strong.
When Faith walked into our clinic, she was completely distraught and emotional. As a church-going Christian, Faith was ashamed to find herself unmarried and pregnant, with no plans of a future with the baby’s father. What would her parents think? What would the members of her church think?
Faith felt as if she had let God down. She considered abortion to be her only option and spoke candidly with her counselor. Faith expressed that she wasn’t ready to be a parent and wasn’t financially prepared for a baby. Although abortion conflicted with what she believed, continuing the pregnancy seemed impossible.
They discussed her fears and anxieties, but also her strengths and capabilities. Above all, her counselor patiently and lovingly reminded her of the gospel and the truth of how much God loves all of His children, including her and her pre-born baby.
As she entered the sonogram room, Faith was still filled with anxiety. She was greeted warmly by the sonographer who tried to calm her fears. But when Faith saw the image of her baby appear on the screen- a perfect profile, little fingers and the flickering beat of a tiny heart, her fear turned to joy. She knew right then that she would embrace this child, her child.
“I think it was God’s intervention that I chose to come to your [clinic],” Faith texted. “Had it not been for you that day, I don’t know what would have happened.”
With her counselor’s help, Faith signed up for several Lifesense classes to better equip herself to parent her child. She particularly enjoyed the “Your Spiritual Self” class, which reminded her of God’s loving forgiveness through Jesus for her.
Faith knows that God led her to the Women’s Clinic that day, and she is forever grateful that she followed His prompting to choose life for her pre-born baby. Faith gave birth to a beautiful son earlier this year.
“Thank you so much for all the support you gave me throughout my journey… I hope many more [women] like me choose to meet you and listen to the word of God through you for many years to come.”
