In 1984 President Ronald Reagan issued a proclamation designating January 22 as the first National Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. Part of the proclamation states: “I call upon the citizens of this blessed land to gather on that day in homes and places of worship to give thanks for the gift of life, and to reaffirm our commitment to the dignity of every human being and the sanctity of each human life.”
Sanctity of Human Life Sunday (SOHLS) is commemorated each year on the Sunday before January 22, which is the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision. This year, we will recognize Sunday, January 19 as SOHLS. We also recognize the entire month of January as Sanctity of Human Life Month, a time to remember the many lives lost to abortion, and to renew our commitment to protecting life at every stage. We urge you to take time this month to reflect on how you, your family and your church can put your prolife views to action in our community to serve women, save lives and share Jesus.
